Founded in 1993 and granted “deemed to be university” status in 2007, AMET offers specialized maritime education spanning diplomas to doctoral programs.

With a student body of around 3,000, the university houses seven schools and 16 departments covering Nautical Science, Marine & Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Petroleum & Mining Engineering, Electronics & Computer Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Processing, Business Studies, and more. Academically, AMET holds AICTE approval, UGC recognition, “Grade A” NAAC accreditation, and certification from DNV GL; notably, its maritime programs have earned top “A1” grades via the Directorate General of Shipping’s CIP for five consecutive years.

Internationally active, AMET is a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities and frequently ranks among the top maritime universities globally using IAMU’s PIMET metrics. It maintains strong overseas academic collaborations—with UK institutions like Plymouth, Glasgow, and Strathclyde—and operates its own “Jewel of AMET” training ship and bridge simulator.

The 65 acre campus boasts modern labs, a rich library, simulation facilities, sports complexes, hostels, and a medical centre. Over 16,000 alumni serve in shipping and allied sectors, and the university regularly hosts international conferences and placement events with firms like Shell, NYK, and Dockendale.

In summary, AMET University stands out as a centre of maritime excellence in India, rich in tradition, globally recognized, and equipped with top-tier training infrastructure.
